Wisdom Nuggets-Prof Nitin Nohria, Dean of Harvard Business School

I heard wisdom words of Prof. Nitin Nohria dean of Harvard Business School in a news channel. He shared all practical aspects of life which made me to write this blog. He shared all those things which are required in a responsible professional or in a business leader and most important which we PROTONS are learning here. So here I can easily connect the dots. Some of the main points which he shares are like as

Constant Hardwork and Improvements leads you to peak

This is the success mantra which I learnt from his talk. Success can’t be achieved overnight. You need to do work hard, you have to be determined, dedicated towards your goals and objectives, you need to look on constant improvements in your self. You need to invest in education at each and every stage of life. If you will to do this success has bound to fall in your legs. It doesn’t matter from which point you are starting your career what I got from this is no matter what you are getting in your start if you will follow above things, you will surely reach to the top or wherever you want. Further on a question he added that Education is one of the stick or tool to achieve success in whatever profession you want to. Most of the successful leaders across the world are men not women because women are not provided higher education. But now as the time changes more women are graduating as compares to men in the US which is a good sign.

The “Dharma” of a Business Manager

Two important features of profession are
1. You should have a complete knowledge about you subject or work.
2. You should be good enough to apply that knowledge according to the situation.
Same thing applied in the business also. But this can’t only be done by making business as a profession. People always do good work when they choose according to their interest. It is not mandatory that business as a profession would lead to prosperous work. People do work better when they choose voluntarily.

Management Oath

His view on a debate that whether a management student takes management oath or not was that it is not compulsory that you should take management oath but you need to be responsible and if oath serves you as a reminder of your duties then go ahead. Once you become a leader in the corporate world you need to hold all the responsibilities not only of your private interests but also of public interests. The global economic crises which we are facing right now are some or other way because of false actions taken by business leaders. So, business leaders have to think that their actions are not only going to affect their private entity but also cause public consequences.
So, it is needed to make innovations in business education. Business education has to win trust of the society and it can be done when we come out with leaders who are not only competent enough but also possess character towards the interest of society and prosperity.
I am very happy that all these things which he shared, we are learning in our college. Our PROTON HONOUR CODE suddenly hitted in my mind when I heard above mention things. All the values which he shared are imbibed in our honour code.
